River Links House pairs a crisp white concrete floor with light filled living spaces. The clients wanted a nil exposure finish, the cleanest look mechanically polished concrete can give, across roughly 300 square metres of living space. The slab was not poured to a Class A tolerance, so a true nil would have left low spots reading rough and unpolished. Faced with that choice, the clients opted to grind a further 1 to 2 millimetres, touching in every low spot and revealing a little more stone. The result is a consistent nil to minimum exposure in a semi gloss MPC finish, the exact trade off we walk every client through before we start. The floors continue outside. The back entertaining area is honed concrete at a minimum stone exposure, while the surrounds and driveway are honed to full exposure using a decorative Holcim mix. Inside, the mechanically polished floor runs over a Hanson Icelandia mix, the base of that crisp white finish.
