A true diamond-ground, densified and polished floor (MPC) that turns your raw slab into a hard, light-reflective surface built to last decades. We deliver mechanically polished concrete for homes, offices and industrial sites across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
Mechanically polished concrete, often shortened to MPC, is concrete that has been ground and refined with progressively finer industrial diamond tooling, then chemically densified and polished to a set sheen. The shine comes from the slab itself, not a coating on top, so what you walk on is solid stone-hard concrete. The densifying step can harden the surface by up to ten times, and because the polish is worked into the slab itself, MPC is an indoor flooring finish built to take decades of traffic.
That is the key difference between a mechanically polished floor and a sealed one. A grind and seal floor gets its gloss from a topical sealer sitting on the surface. An MPC floor is polished all the way into the concrete, which is why it holds its finish under heavy traffic and rarely needs recoating.

Every mechanically polished concrete floor we finish follows the same four stages. It is a slow, methodical build of clarity and hardness, and it is what separates a real MPC floor from a quick topical polish.

We diamond-grind the slab flat and open the surface, choosing how much of the aggregate (the stone in the mix) to reveal. This sets the look: nil, minimum or full stone exposure.
See Stone Exposure OptionsA lithium silicate densifier soaks into the concrete and reacts inside it, filling the pores and making the surface noticeably harder, denser and more abrasion resistant.
We work through progressively finer diamond resins, refining the surface step by step until it reaches the gloss level you have chosen: a matte, semi gloss or high gloss look.
See Gloss Level OptionsA penetrating guard is burnished in to repel water, oil and stains. The result is a finished floor that is ready to use, easy to clean and protected without a film on top. Reapply the guard about every 10 years and your floor will literally last for decades.
Mechanically polished concrete vs grind and seal, compared on shine, durability and lifetime cost.
| Mechanically Polished (MPC) | Grind & Seal | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the shine comes from | Polished into the concrete itself with diamonds | A topical sealer coating sitting on the surface |
| Durability under traffic | Very high. The wear surface is solid concrete | Good, but the sealer film can scratch and wear in busy areas |
| Maintenance over time | Damp mop only. Rarely needs recoating | Needs the sealer stripped and recoated every few years |
| Look and feel | A natural stone-like depth with a true polished sheen | A wet, glossy look from the coating |
| Best suited to | Homes, showrooms, offices and high-traffic commercial floors | Budget projects, garages and slabs that are not ideal for full polishing |
| Upfront cost | Higher upfront, lower to own over its life | Lower upfront, more spent on recoating later |

Why Queensland homes and businesses choose mechanically polished concrete floors that last.

Densifying hardens the slab so the polished surface resists scuffs, foot traffic and trolley wheels. It is one of the most durable floors you can put down.
No stripping, no recoating, no waxing. A damp mop keeps it looking sharp, which is why warehouses and showrooms rely on it.
The polished surface reflects natural and artificial light, lifting brightness in living areas and cutting lighting needs in commercial fit-outs.
One seamless surface with nowhere for dust, mould or allergens to gather. Easy to keep clean and kind to sensitive households.
There is no new flooring to buy or rip up later. We work with your existing concrete, which keeps both cost and waste down.
Pick your gloss level and how much stone shows through. The same process can read warm and soft or sharp and architectural.
Two choices shape your mechanically polished concrete floor: gloss level and how much stone you reveal.

Choose how much your floor shines, from a soft matte through to a deep mirror gloss. The higher the polish, the more light it reflects and the brighter the space feels.

A floor's real cost is every year you own it, not the day it is finished. Polished concrete is finished once and only needs the occasional re-seal, so it works out the lowest total cost of any floor over a 50 year life.
| Carpet Tiles | Vinyl | Ceramic Tiles | Epoxy | Polished Concrete | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical lifespan | 7-10 years | 10-15 years | 20+ years | 10-15 years | 50+ years |
| Replacement over 50 yrs | 5-6 times | 3-4 times | 2-3 times | Recoat 3-4 times | None, re-seal only |
| Disruption to replace | High, recurring | High, recurring | Very high, demolition | Moderate, recoats | Minimal |
| Heavy traffic & wear | Poor | Moderate | Cracks & chips | Good | Excellent |
| Cleaning & hygiene | Traps dirt | Seams catch dirt | Grout lines catch dirt | Easy | Seamless, easy |
| Indicative 50-yr cost / m² | ~$420 | ~$380 | ~$340 | ~$300 | ~$180 |
Figures are indicative for comparison only and will vary with product, area, site and specification. Costs are cumulative over 50 years (supply, finish and replacement). "OzGrind did a fabulous job of lifting the tiles and mechanically polishing the slab in our 1970s house. We were really nervous about doing it but are thrilled with the result. Their professionalism and communication far exceeded any other company I dealt with."
"So fast and professional. New slab MPC mat finish came up amazing, we are so happy with not only the finish but the communication and workmanship."

OzGrind has spent more than 20 years turning ordinary slabs into mechanically polished concrete floors that homeowners and builders are proud to stand on. Our team works across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, and we treat every floor the same way, whether it is a single living room or a commercial slab running into the thousands of square metres.
Because mechanically polished concrete is polished into the slab rather than coated, it does not peel, flake or need stripping back. The densified surface shrugs off foot traffic, trolley wheels and dropped gear, which is why you find it in busy showrooms and warehouses as much as in family homes. Over the life of the floor it asks for very little, and that low upkeep is a big part of its value.
If you have researched mechanically polished concrete you have probably come across Husqvarna Hiperfloor. For years it was the best known MPC system, and OzGrind's mechanically polished concrete is its direct equivalent. Husqvarna has since retired the Hiperfloor name, and the system most people specify today is HTC Superfloor, which OzGrind offers, along with a more affordable option in the mechanically polished range so there is a level to suit most budgets. Whichever route you take the principle is the same: the slab is ground, hardened with a densifier so the surface can end up many times tougher than raw concrete, then polished to your chosen sheen. Because the finish is worked into the slab, MPC is an indoor flooring solution rather than an outdoor one.
A mechanically polished floor is a single seamless surface with no grout lines or coating to trap dirt, so it will not support mould or dust mites and is a sound choice for asthma and allergy sufferers. The hardened surface resists staining and can be finished for better slip resistance where it is needed. There is no topical layer to wear away and no recoating every few years, so over a twenty year cycle MPC is one of the lowest life-cycle-cost floors you can choose. It also reflects natural and artificial light, which can cut your lighting needs, and because it reuses the slab already in your build it is an environmentally sensible choice with very little waste.
No two slabs are the same, so we start by reading yours. The age of the concrete, the mix, and how much aggregate sits near the surface all shape what is possible. From there we agree on a gloss level and a degree of stone exposure, then grind, densify and polish to that brief. If your slab is better suited to a different finish, we will say so rather than push a result that will not last.

We deliver mechanically polished concrete floors for homes and businesses right across South East Queensland.
Mechanically polished concrete (MPC) is a concrete floor that has been ground and refined with progressively finer diamond tooling, then chemically densified and polished to a chosen sheen. The shine is created in the concrete itself rather than from a coating on top, so the surface you walk on is solid, hard-wearing concrete that holds its finish for years.
Most sound slabs can be mechanically polished, including existing concrete and new pours. The final look depends on the quality and age of the concrete and how much aggregate sits near the surface. If a slab is not suited to full polishing, we will tell you honestly and suggest a grind and seal finish instead, which can look similar at a lower cost.
Both finishes start by grinding the slab, but they get their shine in different ways. Mechanically polished concrete is polished into the slab with diamonds, so the wear surface is concrete. Grind and seal gets its gloss from a topical sealer that sits on the surface.
In practice, MPC lasts longer and needs almost no upkeep, while a grind and seal floor costs less upfront but the sealer needs recoating every few years. You can read the full breakdown in our finish comparison guide.
The price depends on the size and condition of your slab, the level of stone exposure and gloss you want, and how much prep the floor needs first. Larger, simpler areas cost less per square metre than small or detailed spaces. The best way to get an accurate figure is our free cost calculator or a no-obligation quote, which we return within 48 hours.
Maintenance is about as easy as flooring gets. A regular damp mop keeps an MPC floor clean, with no stripping, waxing or recoating needed. On slip, a polished floor is fine dry, and where slip resistance matters, such as wet areas or outdoor zones, we can adjust the finish or add a treatment to suit. For outdoor surfaces we usually recommend a honed finish instead.
Most residential floors take a few days on site, depending on the area, the condition of the slab and the finish you have chosen. Larger commercial projects are staged to fit around your build or trading hours. We give you a clear timeline with your quote so you know what to expect.
Hiperfloor (by Husqvarna) and Superfloor (by HTC) are two of the best known mechanically polished concrete systems. Hiperfloor was Husqvarna's MPC system, and OzGrind's mechanically polished concrete is its direct equivalent. The Hiperfloor name has since been retired, and HTC Superfloor is the system commonly specified today. Both grind, densify and polish the slab to a hard, light-reflective finish. OzGrind offers Superfloor plus a more affordable option in the mechanically polished range, so you can match the system to your budget and the look you want.
Mechanically polished concrete is an indoor finish. Outdoors we use honed concrete, which is ground back and sealed to handle the weather and give better grip underfoot. For patios, driveways and pool surrounds we recommend a honed finish instead.
