High Moisture Content

This disclaimer outlines some of the issues that may arise where there is high moisture content in your concrete slab. High moisture can come from a range of underlying or external factors, including but not limited to the plumbing and drainage of your home. Before we proceed, we need you to understand what you may see and what it means for the finished floor.

Signs you may see

01
Wet patches

Damp or wet patches appearing on the slab during or after grinding.

Efflorescence

A white, powdery substance drawn to the surface as moisture moves through the slab.

Delamination of the topical coating

Moisture pressure lifting or separating a topical sealer or coating from the slab.

Milky appearance

A cloudy, milky look caused by water becoming trapped under a topical coating.

Hydrostatic pressure

Pressure from moisture beneath the slab pushing grout or filler up and out of joints and holes.

Examples

Wet patches. Damp areas surfacing during or after grinding.
Moisture bursting through coating. Trapped pressure blistering up through a topical coating.
Delamination. A topical coating lifting away from the slab.
Moisture along doorways. A damp, hazy band tracking in along a threshold.
Milky appearance. Water trapped beneath a topical coating.
Outdoor moisture. Surface moisture outdoors lifting a coating.
Moisture and efflorescence. Salts and lifting flakes as moisture moves through the slab.
Efflorescence. White, powdery deposits drawn to the surface.
Efflorescence along edges. Build-up where the floor runs parallel with lawn.
