Grind & Seal Concrete Floors

Do not apply tape, glue or any adhesive directly to a sealed floor.

This includes builders' tape, painters' tape and masking tape. Even low tack tapes bond to the sealer, and when they are removed they can pull the sealer up with them, causing it to lift, peel or delaminate and fail. This is not a fault in the product or in OzGrind's workmanship; it is caused by the adhesive being applied to the surface. Any repair required as a result is chargeable. Please note tape should not be applied to a mechanically polished floor either, while it will not delaminate, it can still mark and stain the surface.

If the floor is likely to be exposed to heavy trade traffic, likely abrasion or pets with sharp claws, a mechanical polish (MPC) may be the more suitable finish. With a mechanical polish the finish is ground and refined into the concrete itself rather than sitting on top as a coating, so it is generally more resistant to scratching, scuffing and wearing away. Just as importantly, a mechanical polish can be patch repaired if it is damaged, whereas a grind and seal cannot, a damaged sealer usually requires the whole floor to be re-coated.

A sealed floor can be scratched or scuffed by grit underfoot, dragged materials, dropped tools, trolleys, scaffolding and general trade activity. Where the floor is handed over before the build is complete, or where other trades continue to work on or around it, OzGrind cannot control how the surface is treated. OzGrind is not liable for scratches, scuffs, gouges, staining or other damage caused by other trades, site activity, or anyone other than OzGrind once the floor has been sealed and handed over.

• No foot traffic for at least 24 hours; no vehicle traffic for 7 days.
• Avoid heavy traffic and moving furniture for at least 72 hours.
• Keep all water and liquids off the floor for at least 72 hours after the final coat.
• Some sealers take up to 14 days to fully cure, depending on weather.
• If the floor must be covered, use only breathable coverings such as Ramboard or GeoFabric. Never use plastic or non-breathable coverings, they trap moisture and can turn the sealer milky or cause it to peel. Ensure no tape is applied to the floor itself.

Once cured, keep the floor free of grit, clean with lukewarm water or a pH neutral cleaner only, and protect it from acidic spills, abrasive or harsh cleaners, steam mops, wax products and direct heat. Full care instructions are provided separately. We recommend a sand and re-seal every 5 to 7 years depending on use. Damage resulting from failure to follow the supplied care instructions is not covered.
