We are excited that you have chosen a full exposure floor for your project. Like all polished concrete, the finish is largely reliant on the concrete placement. If your slab isn't, or wasn't, poured correctly and to specification, you may not achieve the full, consistent exposure level you are wanting. To help you understand what to expect, here are a few things we want you to know before you make your final decision.

If there are low spots in the slab from surface undulations, these areas may not be reached by the machine during grinding and can result in a "bald" spot where little or no stone is exposed. This often occurs along slab edges where the concrete rolls away against a wall, and where concreters have worked up to formwork or block walls.
Imperfections from the concrete placement process may be visible after we complete your floors, depending on how deep the impressions are. Grinding further to remove them means additional cost and can create a divot or "bowl" in the concrete. Common imperfections include screed marks, helicopter marks, boot prints and light patches.
If recycled water was used in mixing your slab, this can cause browning discolouration that may be visible in the overall finish.
If builders or other trades stain the slab while it is curing and before we arrive, there is a chance our process may not remove the staining, depending on how deep the stains have penetrated the concrete.
Full exposure consists of a single 30/40 grit metal-bonded diamond pass to expose the aggregate. We may do additional passes to refine the scratch pattern and grout the floor depending on your chosen finish, but these will not expose much more stone than the first pass. If your desired exposure isn't achieved on the first pass, due to hard concrete, aggregate placement or poor placement, we can grind further into the slab, however this may incur additional costs.
If we complete your floors after skirting and cabinetry are installed, we strongly recommend removing these first. Our hand-tools can only reach 3-6 mm from any finished edge, and further from internal corners, so leaving fittings in place can leave a 3-6 mm untouched gap along all finished fittings that will require caulking after polishing.
