We are so excited that you have chosen feather flooring for your project, and, most importantly, that you have chosen OzGrind to complete the work for you. Our workmanship and quality are of a high standard, but a feather floor is a hand-applied finish and there are a few things we need you to understand before we start, so you know exactly what to expect from the completed floor. Managing your expectations from the very beginning is the whole reason for this disclaimer.
No two floors are ever the same. Your finished floor may turn out different to any photos sent by our office staff or seen on our website, that individuality is part of the finish.
The colour depth is set by the base of the first seal coat. A water-based first coat creates a lighter floor; a solvent-based first coat creates a darker floor. See the examples below for reference.
Troweling motion differs from tradesman to tradesman, so the workmanship in your floor may differ from photos you have seen. There is no way to create a feather floor with no visible trowel marks, that visible workmanship is exactly what makes a feather floor unique.
A feather floor is inconsistent in colour and level due to how the product is placed, with light and dark patches throughout where the material sits up 1-2 mm in different places.
If skirting boards are not removed, ridges of feather product will build up against them on completion. The client will need to run a bead of silicone along every edge where the feather meets the skirting to tidy this up. We always recommend that skirting boards are removed.
Feather flooring is a 2-3 mm cement topping that sits on top of the concrete, so it will mirror whatever the slab underneath does, including cracking and movement. This is not considered a defect of the product.
We do not recommend this flooring for homes with pets such as cats or dogs. Animals stretching, jumping and running on the surface can cause excessive scratching in the sealer, which cannot be removed without a full re-seal.
